Man injured trying to jump onto tourist train NEWSWIRE

GLEN ROCK, Pa. — An allegedly intoxicated man was run over by a Steam Into History train on Oct. 10 when he tried to jump aboard the train as it passed. His left leg was severed at the knee, and his right foot was also injured.

Steam Into History personnel aboard the train were unaware of the accident until they returned to the depot at New Freedom. The accident happened about 9:05 p.m., railroad officials said. It is believed the man tried to board the moving train, slipped, and fell under the locomotive. The railroad’s GP9 diesel locomotive was in use rather than the steam locomotive.

Several agencies, including the York County Parks Department, which owns the railroad, are investigating. The Heritage Rail Trail County Park shares the route with the railroad.
York County Parks began investigating the incident since it occurred on the Heritage Rail Trail County Park, Walters said. The county has been in contact with the Federal Railroad Administration, he said.

A railroad official said the train operates slowly through Glen Rock and the engineer rings the bell and blows the horn as the train approaches crossings, which are also manned by flaggers.
