HOMEWOOD, Ill. — The village of Homewood, Ill., will spend more than $64,000 to renovate the railfan viewing platform it opened in 2007.

At a Jan. 27, 2026, meeting, the village board of trustees approved a $64,456.05 contract with BEAR Construction Co. of Rolling Meadows, Ill. The village had previously budgeted up to $76,000 for the project. The contract was among a series of items approved by a single 5-0 vote.

The platform is on Harwood Avenue on the east side of Canadian National’s main line near Homewood’s Metra and Amtrak station. In a memo to the board, Joshua Burman, the village director of public works, said that during the recent renovation of the station, it was determined the platform needs improvements including concrete restoration, masonry repair, painting, pressure washing, and lighting.

Work is expected to begin in late winter or early spring of this year, with new landscaping planned following the completion of the work.
