BALTIMORE, Md. — The B&O Railroad Museum announced today that Steve Angel, President and CEO of the CSX Corporation will co-chair the museum’s $38 million capital campaign to transform its campus in preparation for the 200th anniversary of American railroading in 2027. Angel replaces former CSX CEO Joe Hinrichs in this role. Hinrichs left CSX in September 2025. Angel joins Benjamin H. Griswold IV, as co-chair of the campaign.

Angel was appointed president, CEO, and board member of CSX in September 2025. Previously, he served as CEO of Linde plc from 2018 to 2022, and chairman since 2022.

“CSX, as the proud successor to America’s first commercial railroad, is committed to honoring our heritage while advancing the future of rail,” says Angel. “Co-chairing the B&O Museum’s 200th Anniversary Campus Transformation Campaign is an opportunity to help shape how that story is told – connecting past achievements with the innovation driving our industry forward … ”

Griswold is the great-great-great-great grandson of Alexander Brown, who in 1800 founded Alex Brown & Sons, the first U.S. investment bank. It was at Brown’s house in 1827 where the Baltimore merchants met to charter the first U.S. common carrier railroad — the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad. Griswold was a former director of the New York Stock Exchange, Stanley Black & Decker Inc., W.P. Carey Inc., and Flowers Foods. Currently, he is chairman emeritus of W.P. Carey Inc. and trustee emeritus of Johns Hopkins University.

“I’m thrilled to have Steve Angel join me as co-chair of the B&O Railroad Museum’s capital campaign,” says Griswold.  “I look forward to working with him and am confident that together we will honor railroading’s legacy, celebrate its 200th anniversary, and prepare the Museum and surrounding community for a bright future.”

Work has begun on the museum’s renovations, which include restoring the South Car Works, adding the CSX Bicentennial Garden, and creating Innovation Hall, a new exhibit space illustrating the present and future of U.S. railroading. The development will also reorient the museum’s entrance and how patrons experience the facilities.

“We’re extremely honored that Steve Angel … is joining the campaign as co-chair,” says Kris Hoellen, museum executive director. “Steve is a visionary and understands that the Museum’s campus transformation is not just about celebrating our past, but also about leveraging our heritage to propel the museum into its next 200 years … ”

To date, the Museum has raised $28 million of the needed $38 million.
