Senior Editor David Lassen is now scheduled to serve as the Trains Magazine host on the Trains/Special Interest Tours “UK Celebration Steam Bicentennial Tour,” a 10-day, nine-night event set for Sept. 23-Oct. 2, 2025.
Space remains available for the tour, which begins in London and ends in Manchester. It includes private-car excursions on the Ffestiniog & Welsh Highland Railways; North Yorkshire Moors Railway; and Snowdon Mountain Railway, a steam-powered cog line. Also scheduled is a trip on the Vale of Rheidol Railway.
Visits to the London Transport Museum and highly regarded National Railway Museum in York, England, are also on the agenda. Additional information including a more complete tour schedule is available at the Special Interest Tours website.
The tour will take place during the UK’s Railway 200 festival, a year-long celebration of the launch of the first modern railway, the Stockton & Darlington Railway. The actual 200th anniversary date is Sept. 27, 2025; the tour will include a visit to Shildon, the terminus of the Stockton & Darlington, and its Locomotion Museum complex.
Lassen will be stepping in for Associate Editor Bob Lettenberger, who has had to bow out of the trip.
A real festive opportunity for the Planet Earth’s rail enthusiasts!
