Scheme, numbers mark railroad’s 35th anniversary
PADUCAH, Ky. — Two Paducah & Louisville Railways locomotives have been repainted and numbered to reflect the 35th anniversary of the 280-mile short line, formed from former Illinois Central Gulf lines in 1986.
The locomotives, seen on July 8, 2022, were repainted by Progress Rail in Mayfield, Ky., to reflect the original P&L paint scheme, according to photographer Jim Pearson.

Does anyone know who the previous owner of these units were? CSX had a lot of these units diesel/road slug units.
Looks like one cooling fan over the dynamic brake blister. If so, that makes it a GP not a SD
I’m seeing 3 axles on the lead unit (2021). That would make this an SD, not a GP (Geep) unit.
Jay I think your counting the spring set between the two axles. Looks to short to be a three axle.
Hi Jay, sorry for the correction, but download the photo and enlarge it. The angle of the photo makes a clear view of the lead truck difficult, but a close look at the rear truck clearly shows the leaf springs between the 2 axles. This is a GP40-? with a road slug. Unfortunately, The Diesel Shop website does not list this unit on the roster, but P&L does have a number of GP40-3s and several road slugs. Notice the slug in the picture has blanked-out radiator fans and air intakes.
