LOS ANGELES — The board of directors of transit agency LA Metro will consider an $8.8 billion budget on Thursday, a fiscal plan including $2.3 billion for ongoing expansion projects as well as funds to begin operation on two new rail lines.
Metro’s in-house blog, The Source, reports the expansion funding includes ongoing work on the Purple (D) Line subway extension to Westwood, the L Line light rail expansion to Pomona, and the Airpor Metro connector, the future transfer point connecting Metro light rail to the automated people mover at Los Angeles International Airport.
The budget also includes operating funds for the new K (Crenshaw/LAX) light rail line, which provides a connection between the A (Blue) and C (Green) light rail lines along Crenshaw, Florence, and Aviation boulevards and will eventually serve the airport; and the Regional Connector, the downtown addition tying together three existing light rail lines.
The budget also includes $2743 million for regional rail including Metrolink; $1.9 billion for other L.A. County transportation agencies, and $634 million for highway programs.
