SAN JOSE, Calif. — The Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority has restored service on more of its light rail network, bringing back Blue Line service as of Sunday, Sept. 12. Trains will operate at 20-minute intervals during weekdays and 30-minute intervals evenings and weekends.

The VTA also has extended fare-free light rail travel, which was to end Sept. 12, through Sept. 30.

A message on the VTA website says restoration of the Blue Line between the Baypointe and Santa Teresa stations took longer because of work “to repair vandalism to some of the equipment.”

After being shut down since May, light rail service resumed Aug. 29 on the Orange Line and part of the Green Line [see “VTA light rail service returns,” Trains News Wire, Aug. 30, 2021].

The VTA says full restoration of Green Line service should come “very soon.” It notes there are a large number of crossing gates on that line and testing is underway to assure all are working properly.
