Midday Modeler — 04.06.2022: This week! Classic Toy Trains Editor Hal Miller hosts the weekly Midday Modeler broadcast. If you’ve never experienced a modern toy train locomotive, Hal is here to set you up.
First off, Hal demonstrates a modern O-gauge MTH locomotive decorated for Canadian Pacific and running on the City Terminal & Transfer toy train layout. Then, Hal and David Popp unbox a Menard’s-built toy train bridge, followed by a check-in with an update in the Depot Dash Kitbash building challenge.
The kitbash challenge this year features N scale and HO scale models from Walthers. The models are based on a Union Pacific depot prototype.
Midday Modeler is a new, regular video segment, recorded live and unscripted at Kalmbach Media beginning in February 2022.
The segment features Kalmbach Media staff modeling and talking about model railroads in a casual format. It is unscripted and broadcast live via Facebook on Wednesdays at 1 p.m. Central time each week. Anyone who sees the video on Facebook can comment and ask questions, or just say “hi!”.
Shortly after the Facebook live stream, the Midday Modeler — 04.06.2022 video is taken down from Facebook and posted to Trains.com where it is available only to Model Railroader Video Plus members and Trains.com Unlimited Members.
Thanks for the shout out. I’m sorry I wasn’t more clear on the location of the station photos.
Good episode.
Looking forward to todays…. 4-13-2022
Thanks Hal and David, Great episode. That NH unit is beautiful.
Great comments on the kit bashing prebuilt buildings. I also have several Menards buildings with duplicates. These comments will help me make my HO prebuilt buildings look more life like.
Classic Toy Trains and Model Railroader should stop by Brickworld Milwaukee at Wisconsin State Fair Park April 23-24, 2022. There will be several LEGO Train layouts, with many, very detailed train models built from LEGO Bricks. I can put you in contact with the show organizers if you are interested.

As a clarification on my freight house kitbash as I wasn’t clear in my email to Mr. Popp, the piers underneath the structure are the ones I wrapped in brick. The piers underneath the loading docks are wood. Thanks for the shout out and sharing my Depot Dash Kitbash freighthouse! I’m really enjoying the Midday Modeler Live!
