Model Railroader’s HO scale Beer Line layout was built to celebrate the magazine’s 75th anniversary. In this video, David Popp shows you how he added miniature lighting to the layout. This is a project that can be accomplished on most model railroads.

  1. I like the plug in street lamps. I have not seen any in N scale; is there such a product available?

  2. David I noticed in the overhead view of one building that you used resistors to, I assume, drop the voltage down to some of the bulbs. How did you decide what resistance value to use? Ohms law?

  3. David,
It would make an even better improvement if you had used some illuminated signage for some of the buildings. I realize that no one yet makes an HO scale Schiltz neon window sign, but that would be right up there. Nice job explaining how the basics are done

  4. Great tips on building interior lighting.May I suggest using bare 12 gauge solid copper wire for your bus runs.Any hardware store that sells electrical supplies will give you the leftover endcuts for free.

  5. This is post completed project review and not really a how-to. I'd like to see a step by step of retrofitting a building for lighting and realism. That would be more valuable ! Thanks
