Some areas of the Model Railroader staff’s Bay Junction model train layout have been declared finished, but there are still a few places that need some finishing touches. Associate editor Cody Grivno is working on some loose ends in between the rails of the track, while senior editor Dana Kawala finishes up the fertilizer plant and mounts it to a base. You’ll be able to see some of the finished scenes at the end of the video.

  1. just what we railfans have been waiting for Bay Junction is complete and we have water in Turtle Creek Canyon

  2. Because my family is from Williams Bay I expected a more accurate layout. The first magazine pictures of the town showed the location of the outside stairway in town (Like the actual stairway my grandfather built). This video no longer shows the stairs?
I hoped Yerkes Observatory would be shown and note there is no river in Williams Bay, although beautiful Lake Geneva could have been part of the layout. Many model railroads have boats in their layout. There is also a gravel pit that could have added interest as the real trains hauled gravel from Williams Bay years ago.
However, I still enjoyed the project development and will be sorry to see it end. The staff did a nice job and I would love to see them do a portion of Chigago or Grand Rapids, Michigan.

  3. Great looking layout , but the Bay City passenger station needs to be populated as it looks very empty. You know platform details and passengers.

  4. Really enjoy the video updates on the Bay Junction RR. All of the staff deserve atta boys for such an excellent job. Projects like this one is what sets MR apart from the competition. Well done everyone!

  5. Wow you guys have done an outstanding job on that layout; truly inspiring work. And the video updates are great

  6. Hi David;
The layout really looks great! The video streaming is OK, but i was having trouble with the audio. The audio was too low and I had to make adjustments to hear it. Otherwise, let's keep it coming – Happy Easter to all at Kalmbach.

  7. Good little video to watch! I love the river that goes under the highway and around the curve. Nice work!

  8. really looking good we seniors here wish we had your knowledge on build a model railroad. we look at pictures and model as close as we can.one thing about it it is lot of FUN and never stop learning. thk u guys

  9. Wow! It is looking great. Wonferful updates. one question…in the last scene shown there appears to be a rock outcropping in the roadway. Did I miss an earlier explanation or is this one of those last minute fixes?
Keep up the excellent videos on you activities.
    Regards.

I really enjoy these segments, as they are the first thing I look for on Thursdays.

  13. Think you guys are doing a "bang up" job! Love the part that is completed. The town is shaping up to be awesome! All of you fellows deserve a big pat on the back, so here it is… turn around and "pat, pat, pat" Hope that made you feel better!

  14. I really like the short and sweet approach that these progress report videos take. Enough to wet your appetite, but not so much in depth to get boring. Great job!

  15. Hi Guys. great job!!! I would also like to see a Vido Carbeing pushed over the entire length of the layout. I think it would be awsome. "Mitch" HdeG Maryland

  16. Hi guys. As a Chopper rider (for more years than many of you have been around 🙂 I have only one suggestion for the Chopper Shop. Pave the driveway and parking pad. Anyone who has ever ridden one of these beasts doesn't like to ride on loose gravel if it can be avoided.

Great work and keep 'em coming 🙂
