The scenery, wiring, and structures are finally complete on this Model Railroader project model train layout. The HO scale Virginian Ry. also includes the 2 x 6-foot Turtle Creek extension and a 7 x 78 inch staging yard. Managing editor David Popp shows you how to connect the benchwork and wiring for the sections. He’ll also show you how to use a North Coast Engineering (NCE Corp.) Powercab Digital Command Control (DCC) system as he runs a train around the finished model railroad.

  1. This is one video I keep watching to get further ideas, tips, and tricks such as the power connectors across the extensions. Thanks MR for another great layout!!!

  2. always good to see the layout built now I think what will look good next to Rogers Yard is the Thin Branch so those boxcars and gons have a place to go.

  3. I just returned from 2 Home Depot locations to purchase the Ideal Industries Power Plugs. The Ideal model # is 30-1302S and the store SKU# is 643984. The store website says that they are not in stock anywhere in my area, But I found them on the shelf, just the same. They are $3.99 plus tax for a 5 pack.

  4. Another way of doing the connection are the use of pattern makers dowels. same principle but you only need to make small holes. Many on Ebay in the UK. Also if you use case clamps ( may be called something else in the US) which fit on the outside of the layout and clip over then tighten up it saves going under the layout with nuts and bolts, Useful for the older modeller (me)

  5. I cannot find the "pattern maker pins" on the C & L Fine Scale website. Also, C & L is in the UK. Is there a US supplier for this item? Is there another name for this item? When you search on "pattern maker pins" on Google, you do not get anything like what you show in the video.

That being said, it was a very interesting and informative series. I got a lot of good ideas from it. Good job!

  6. The video is insperation to all who watch it to get off the couch and start there own I am just geting into it after 35 years and am a little set back by the advacement in everything and also the cost but I am not going to let that stop me so keep the info coming

  7. Great series! This series and the Beer Line series are my favorites so far. The "Patten Maker Pins" that David refers to in the video are called "C1191 Baseboard Alignment Dowels" on C&L Finescale's website. They cost 7.98 euros (about $14.00 U.S.) for 2 pairs. I too, would like to know if anyone in the U.S. carries these pins.

  8. Being out of railroading for about 15 years, it's nice to be back. The video is all new to me, but WOW. Thanks for everything, now back to my N-guage

  9. Now that I think about it, the cars were probably from Athern. I told you my memory was shorting out.

  10. Very well done, both the layout and the accompanying videos.
One question – did the Virginian allow switching with the caboose in the cut? The shot of delivering hoppers has the caboose mid-train.

  11. It is very beautiful! the one curve needs widing though. I thought the train was headed for a derail? But very nice overall!

  12. Enjoyed all the videos. Years ago I bought several cars that actually opened from the bottom and would dump a load of coal into a bin under an unloading trestle. Both my hair and my memory have failed me to some extent, but I believe they were from Atlas. Visitors to my small layout are always amazed to see the coal really empty from the cars. These cars could possibly be found at local train shows with a little digging. They would add a lot to operating the Virginian, and a couple of the cars were even lettered for that railroad.

  13. For those of you looking for the "Pattern Maker's Pins", they are item no. C1191 Baseboard alignment dowels on C&L Finescales website.

As always, a great video, and the series has inspired me to create my own slice of Appalachian Coal Mining…

  14. IT WAS GREAT WATCHING THE VIDEO. YOU GUYS ALWAYS DO A GOOD JOB.. ANY FUTURE PROJECTS ABOUT NEW JERSEY R.R.'s
