  1. good work on Merchants Row Steve those buildings will look great on Main Street of Williams Bay. work on Bay Junction continues now they have to build the industries

  2. From my first layout when I was a kid I was always rigging up old christmas lights with bell wire and making the buildings seem "lived in". This shadowbox thing has my mind reeling, the things that can be done to upgrade my Main Street to a cool night scene, wow. Looks like I'm going to need another sketch pad.

  3. Hello Hal,

Everything you'll want to know about turnouts and DCC is in the December 2009 issue of MR in DCC Corner on pages 76 and 77. It has some good diagrams for making turnouts "DCC friendly." The problem we've had with our turnouts on the MR&T is that they cause short circuits for to a variety of reasons, the biggest of which is that the point rail and the stock rail are different polarities on the open side of the switch.

Also, the turnouts on the MR&T had brass contacts in the switch bar, that over time, either fail to make contact, or get bent and keep the point rail from snugging tightly against the stock rail.

We're using Peco Code 83 North American turnouts as replacements, with powered frogs and point rails wired to their matching stock rails. When set up this way, they work flawlessly.

    Good luck with the project!

  4. Again we find ourselves with a great video. I do however have a question/ recommendation. Was there a special reason to paint the buildings interior black on all of the stores or couldn't you use multiple colors? Thank you and please keep up the grrrreat work. I can't wait to see how to kitbash your industries.

  5. David Popp mention in the part 6 Video that the Williams Bay area turnouts were being replaced because they were not DCC friendly. It would be nice to know what was the cause of the problems with the older turnouts. This is important to the Battle Creek Model Railroad Club as we get our layout ready for the 2012 NMRA National Convention so that we do not make the same mistakes. Thanks,
    Hal Bohan, President

  6. The shadow box idea is just the answer for several of the buildings that I have to finish inside. GREAT IDEA. I will now have to put in lights also. Just the fire that I need to finish the buildings. Videos inspire other peoples ideas and I Thank You for my own use.

  7. The shadow box concept is really cool and allows your creativity to flow freely. This is really inspirational stuff. Thanks!

  8. Eric,

The extensions won't be visible once the buildings are in place.

    David,

This project is turning into a treasure trove of ideas. Keep up the good work!
