We’re changing things up for our latest product review video. Trains.com Director David Popp took the Rapido HO TurboTrain 2.0 on the road to run on Gerry Leone’s Bona Vista RR. Learn more about the full-size United Aircraft TurboTrain and our review sample, decorated in early Amtrak colors. Then watch the five-car train pass through various scenes on Gerry’s layout and make a station stop.
In addition to Amtrak (early and late schemes), the Rapido HO TurboTrain 2.0 is decorated for Canadian National, Penn Central/United States Department of Transportation, United Aircraft/United States Department of Transportation, and VIA Rail.
The HO scale TurboTrain 2.0 is designed from United Aircraft blueprints and features a new drive system and completely redesigned single-axle trucks with needlepoint axles. Rapido offers the model in unique Canadian and American versions, with three different Power Dome Cars and six different Intermediate Cars. Both Power Dome Cars have an ESU LokSound V5 sound decoder and speaker. Additional highlights include golden-white, light-emitting-diode headlights and a redesigned, roof-mounted SMD interior lighting system. The TurboTrain 2.0 has a minimum radius of 18”.
Three-car sets are priced at $749.95, and five-car sets retail for $899.95. Four-car Canadian add-on sets sell for $319.95. A single coach lists for $89.95.
