The Broadway Limited Imports EMD SD45 HO scale diesel locomotive is the featured model in this latest product review video from Model Railroader magazine. Senior Editor Cody Grivno reviews the unit, which represents the production of 3,600-horsepower prototypes built between 1965 and 1971.
The reviewed model is decorated as Great Northern no. 424. This unit was built in July 1968 and later served the Burlington Northern after the 1970 merger. Key features include a factory-applied snow plow, metal three-chime air horn, and see-through dynamic brake fans. The sample is equipped with a Paragon4 sound decoder, which controls realistic lighting effects—including class lights and number boards—and sound functions such as the 20-cylinder diesel engine startup and yard radio chatter. Stealth series models without sound retail for $259.99, while sound-equipped versions are priced at $389.99.
