Don Ball, a frequent contributor to Model Railroader magazine, died on January 21 at his home in Blue Springs, Mo. He was 73 years old.

Most of Don’s articles focused on projects he was working on for his 37 x 40-foot HO scale Stockton & Copperopolis RR, set in 1895. The topics were wide ranging, from a scratchbuilding wood trestle and truss bridge (August 2016) to building a model railroad telephone system (November 2015).

In addition to appearing in MR, Don also had three bylines in Model Railroad Planning (1995, 2000, and 2011). The 1995 and 2000 editions featured his HO scale Moraga Springs Northern Ry. The Stockton & Copperopolis was shown in the 2011 issue.
