Eric White has been the editor of Model Railroader since June 2022. He started with Kalmbach Publishing as an associate editor in 2014, moving up to senior editor in 2020 before being promoted to editor following Carl Swanson’s move to Trains magazine editor. Highlights of Eric’s career have included visiting and interviewing Rod Stewart about his model railroad in England, and visiting and operating on such layouts as the La Mesa Club’s Tehachapi Loop model railroad at the San Diego Model Railroad Museum, and at many of MR’s contributors layouts around the country.
Eric has been a reader of Model Railroader since his elementary school days, when he would devour his school library’s copies as soon as they came in. In addition to being a model railroader, Eric is also been a plastic kit modeler, mostly of car models, since he was a boy. Several of his reviews and stories have appeared in sister publications Scale Auto and FineScale Modeler.
Eric came to Model Railroader from the daily newspaper world, working for strings of daily and formerly weekly newspapers in the Philadelphia suburbs. Before earning his journalism degree from Temple University in Philadelphia, Eric also studied architecture and engineering, working for more than a decade as an architectural draftsman, where he learned skills he’s applied to scratchbuilding various projects for articles in Model Railroader.
Eric and his wife and son live in Waukesha.
