Frequently asked questions for Classic Toy Trains readers:

Q: I love toy trains but haven’t played with them in years. How do I get started?

A: Welcome back! Toy trains are fun and a great way to relive good memories and create new ones. We recommend you start with our Beginners section. You’ll find articles here that answer many basic questions and get you reacquainted with the hobby.

Q: How much are my old toy trains worth?

A: There’s many questions to consider, from condition to rarity and whether you still have the original packaging. We sell price guides for Lionel trains in our store at shop.trains.com. We have an article about determining value. Unfortunately Classic Toy Trains staff cannot assess a train or accessory’s value or condition for you.

Q: I found/bought/inherited toy trains and would like to sell them. Can you help me?

A: We wrote an article about this subject. Please read it here.

Q: Do you have information on specific toy trains that I have in my collection?

A: We have hundreds of articles and dozens of videos, so there’s a good chance we have information on pieces in your collection. Please take a look at the Collectors’ Showcase of videos for in-depth information on specific pieces. If you’re a Trains.com member, you have access to our entire issue archive, so you can read back issues and find your favorites.

Q: I have a question about my broken/non-functioning toy train or accessory. Can you help?

A: Submit your question to editor@classictoytrains.com for consideration of our Q&A column. Please include your contact information and a photograph, if applicable. Please note that we can’t answer every question individually.

Q: Your magazine’s name says “classic” toy trains. What about new items?

A: We cover new products too! Visit our News/Reviews section to read hobby news and product reviews of new items.

Q: Did you write an article about. . .?

A: Search our magazine (and many other titles) in the Railroad Magazine Index.

Q: How do I get my layout featured in your magazine?

A: Please email editor@classictoytrains.com with your query. Include a description of your layout (size, theme, what makes it special) and attach a few photographs. We’ll get back to you.

Q: I’d like to submit an article. Where can I learn more?

A: Please see our Contributor guidelines page. Again, if you have an article idea, please email us at editor@classictoytrains.com with your query first. We may already have something similar on file.

Q: What is Trains.com?

A: Trains.com is Firecrown Media’s website for all things trains, from prototype to modeling. We offer articles, track plans, videos, and much more, all in one place. Visit our membership page to learn more.
