Ann Arbor 2-8-0, one of 13 Consolidations acquired for freight work during AA’s first period of Detroit, Toledo & Ironton control circa 1906, poses for its builder’s portrait at American’s Schenectady plant.

Whitcomb diesel locomotive No. 1

Ann Arbor’s first diesel locomotive was 44-ton Whitcomb center-cab No. 1 of 1941, seen at Owosso in September 1947.

Ann Arbor 20 was one of two RS1s on the roster. Acquired in 1950, the pair wore the blue, white, and gray scheme of parent Wabash.

Ann Arbor Mikado 180 stands for a builder’s photo at American’s Brooks plant in Dunkirk, N.Y., where she and two sisters were built in 1917. She was later renumbered 2480.

EMD GP35 diesel locomotive 386

Upon taking control of the Ann Arbor in 1963 for the second time, Detroit, Toledo & Ironton traded in the Annie’s FA2s on 10 EMD GP35s, which reused the FAs’ trucks. The 35s also sported DT&I orange paint.
