Two tools I find very helpful:
Helping Hands (with a magnifying glass)
Reverse tweezers.
Thanks for the tip about using jewelers’ files.
This video is a great help as are all the related videos, but the continuous references to "your local hobby shop" suggest that you all are living on a different planet than I am. Most hobby shops are gone, and the few that remain hardly carry full lines of anything. So — I would love to see the editorial policy of MRR magazine changed to insist that videos and written articles include references to real live sources (meaning good solid internet sources). I know, this probably will cause heartburn by potentially offending suppliers who aren't listed, but you are currently offending subscribers by sending them down a path that doesn't exist for many of us. Thanks for listening, and keep up the great work.
I have the best screwdriver for working on trains as small as Z scale!: Husky HC-74501 X
It comes with four interchangeable flat and Philips heads combinations (one of each on either end of the removable screw portion. The other three combinations are stored in the handle when not in use) I think I got mine at Home Depot. I like to cut down on the clutter on my workbench and this is basically 8 screwdrivers in one!
Here are the size heads from smallest to largest:
Flat: 1/16, 5/64, 3/32, 1/8 Philips: 000, 00, 0, 1
Greetings Cody
This is a suggestion for those who don't know what kind of fasteners to use. I suggest deck screws. They come in Phillips and Tork drive and they don't rust. This is important if you have your railroad in a damp enviorment.
Good points for anyone just starting or getting back into the hobby after a long absence.
Model Railroader is now my best helper. Cody seems to be the most photogenic even though he appears to be the youngest.

Thanks Cody, great ideas.
