I'd normally expect to airbrush the track between the track laying and ballasting steps… was that done on the Waterbury layout and skipped in the video series or is it a step David skipped on his layout overall?
This video is just where im at adding an extension to my layout using foam for the first time.this is going to help me with some ideas I have. And im glad to see its in N Scale great.
This video would be a great addition to the EXPERT TIPS video series. There currently is not any videos on ballasting in the video series and this video helped me alot!
All 4 Parts were very informative with a high production value. I am getting back into the hobby after 50 years (yes 50). I ran O gauge then and I am beginning an HO gauge for the grand kids. I am in the planning stages. I think the layout will be ~5'x10', still developing the track layout. This was a very informative presentation with a great deal of great hints. I look forward to seeing more from David.
OOPS! My bad! I guess it was my fault … I watched the episodes out of order … but I just clicked on them as I went down the list (?)
Sorry …
It IS an informative series, David … I just am not looking at it in the correct order … a thousand apologies!!

Good tecnique for the ballast. I apply a slightly different approach specially when the cinder is already in place. I do the center as shown but put with pipette diluted matt medium glue with isopropyl alcohol right after leveling out the ballast. I keep the ballast below the tie tops. When dried I run heavier glue on the sides but below the top of the ties and run ballast over it. Finally when dried I run ballast on the outside of each rail, level it and set with diluted glue.
It requires 2 mix of glues as shown but applied in a different order.
