Getting to know Gerry Leone

Gerry Leone is just as clever as he is comedic! But even better, he’s a masterful model railroader who’s knowledgeable in numerous areas of the hobby. In his MR Video Plus/Trains.com series Off the Rails, audiences enjoyed learning many of the helpful tips and techniques he used to assemble various layouts over the years. Exclusive Trains.com video highlights much of his previous Bona Vista Railroad HO scale layout, and even examines specific details of his scenery construction in his Spaces to Places series. His Back on Track series documents the planning and building of his latest layout, the Bona Vista 5.

With so many of Gerry’s talents at hand, we wouldn’t want any of them to go to waste! You can be sure to find him lending assistance in the construction of several other Trains.com projects, including work on the O scale (1:48) Olympia Logging Co., the HO scale (1:87) Winston-Salem Southbound, and even the N scale (1:160) Canadian Canyons.

  1. The video business seems to be going South at MR. No Drew’s Trackside Adventures, no Back On Track with Gerry lately, no new railroads being built videos. The Mid Day Modeler series is not that interesting to me but I may be the odd ball in the crowd.

I agree – but these interruptions don’t stay on the subject
They just come from “out in left field” – I’m talking about
“Big Boys” and the interruption has jumped to Grey Squirrels
eating chocolate covered coconuts in Checkoslavakia, however you spell it.
They don’t even stay close to the “subject on hand”
See what I mean? Read a printed copy of an interview
and you’ll catch it, I’m pretty sure. Thanks anywho. JAY

  3. Sorry DAVID,
I’M REALLY BAD WITH NAMES and I just couldn’t bring yours up.
Still, what I said still goes,
Quit interrupting – let your guest finish and then say what you have in mind.

    1. Jay — we have to be fair, here. This is the way David and I (and most people) talk to each other, whether we’re on camera or off. Adding little quips and jokes to amplify what the other person has said is part of friendship, and a way of conveying, “I know exactly what you mean!” I honestly didn’t feel he was interrupting me at all, and it showed me that he was really listening to what I was saying.

  4. Learned years ago its better to mark pages with sticky notes than fold over the pages. Can write on both sides of sticky note so you can read it coming and going.
I will probably have to have one of your books as soon as It is out. I’m constantly looking for an article trying to find out some little detail of it I can’t remember. Great idea Gerry!

  5. Great show! Always interesting to hear thoughts of such a humble and talented modeler! Sounds like a very useful book coming!

  6. Thank you for putting this together! I find it extremely interesting to hear in-depth thoughts from these master model railroaders. I thought the interaction between you two showed how much you like each other and your obvious enthusiasm for this wonderful hobby. Well done!

  7. OK 4 Eyes,
So, it’s your show – so what. Quit Interrupting ! Ask your question (s) – have the curtesy to wait for the complete answer. You can edit after the show is over. Make a written list and stick to it. You can modify and add to it without being such a twit.
You Ain’t no Jonny Carson or Merv Griffin or any other late night host – I can’t stand it with them, Either. So Don’t be a Putz ! ! !
Thanks, in advance (and that goes for the rest of your staff).
    JAY, in Milwaukie, OR.
