The Kalmbach Hobby Store has exciting news for N scale modelers. In 2022, we’ll be releasing two new freight cars decorated for the Milwaukee, Racine & Troy, Model Railroader’s freelanced staff layout. The custom-decorated cars are made in the U.S. by Micro-Trains Line Co. Both body styles will be offered in one road number.

In addition, there will be at least two surprise product announcements to go along with our new N scale MR&T State Line Route. Watch for e-mails and check the Kalmbach Hobby Store website frequently for updates.

50-foot double-door boxcar no. 15529 January, item no. 84229
Ring in the new year with MR&T 50-foot double-door boxcar no. 15529 (era: July 1976+). The ready-to-run car is based on Micro-Trains 37000-series tooling and has a factory-installed high-mounted brake wheel and positionable doors but no running boards. The grab irons and ladders are molded.

The die-cast metal underbody has floor board detail on the top and bottom, mounting pads for body-mounted couplers, and body bolsters. Plastic stirrup steps are clipped to the side corners. The center sills, crossmembers, brake appliances, and related rods and pipes are a separate plastic piece clipped to bottom of the metal casting. The boxcar is equipped with pin-mounted roller-bearing trucks, plastic wheelsets, and truck-mounted Magne-Matic couplers.

The MR&T 50-foot double-door boxcar sells for $39.98.

Two-bay Center Flow covered hopper no. 76250 (May, item no. 84230)
Our HO scale two-bay covered hopper has been a hot seller, so we decided to offer the car in N scale. American Car & Foundry 2,980-cubic-foot-capacity Center Flow no. 76250 (era: 1985+) uses Micro-Trains 92000-series tooling and features an injection-molded plastic body; a separate roof, end cages, and stirrups steps; and a factory-installed brake wheel and four round hatch covers. The outlet gates are two-piece assemblies.

Two metal weights are concealed inside the car. The covered hopper is fitted with pin-mounted roller-bearing trucks, plastic wheelsets, and truck-mounted Magne-Matic couplers. The model has mounting pads for those wishing to convert the car to body-mounted couplers.

The MR&T two-bay Center Flow covered hopper is priced at $44.98.
