The Lionel Hallow’s Eve Limited set is here, just in time for the Halloween season! It’s a ready-to-run LionChief outfit traveling the “Graveyard Route” with everything you need to get up and running in one very well-decorated box.

The box is colorful and fun and marks the train as running on the Graveyard Route.

The equipment in it is built with plastic bodies which allows it to withstand some less-than-delicate handling and the occasional derailment.

Fortunately, Lionel can help keep derailments to a minimum through its speed step limitation. On these RTR outfits, the maker sets the speed limit one speed step below where it would derail on O-36 Fastrack. This way if your engineer prefers to highball their new set, it shouldn’t leave the rails on its own.

The locomotive is an 0-8-0 steam engine with cab number 1031, a nod to Halloween. The paint is black and orange with a graveyard graphic along the side of the tender. The latter also has the Hallow’s Eve Limited graphic centered on each side.

The locomotive and tender in the set promise an unforgettable train ride!

The smokebox has spiders crawling on it and a bat graphic is found on the front door. The locomotive features an operating headlight and smoke unit and can be controlled through the supplied remote or via Bluetooth and the Lionel app on a phone or tablet.

The boxcar features flickering LED lighting along the side. It’s lettered for “Undertaker & Sons Mortuary Supplies” which is on the side along with more graveyard graphics. The third car, a triple-dome tankcar, is from the “Cas & Kit Funeral Co.” car with a logo for “Premium Embalming Fluid” along with a danger sign for formaldehyde.

Finally, the caboose is the “Fin Alouicious Funeral Car” number 1029. The caboose features an orange roof, flicker-free LED lighting, and more graveyard graphics.

All rolling stock truck sideframes are orange to contrast with the black car bodies.

Scary sounds, too

Watch out for the tankcar of formaldehyde, it’s scary stuff!

If the graphics and paint don’t set this outfit apart, the sounds certainly do. Using the LionChief remote you can activate the standard bell sound, but the cab chatter and horn are unique to this train. The latter is a werewolf howl!

Cab chatter dialog features the following lines:

  • “Happy Halloween”
  • “Welcome to the Hallow’s Eve Limited Graveyard Route, I’m very happy you’re here to help us with our spirited deliveries.”
  • “We are prepped for departure, and ready to make you scream!”
  • “The moon is full and the stars are bright, nothing is better than Halloween night.”
  • “Full steam ahead, we are on our way!”
  • “What a spook-tacular night on the Hallow’s Eve Limited.”
  • “Faster, faster, we have a strict deadline!”
  • “Arrived at last and on time, happy Halloween!”

Lionel ready-to-run outfits have a hold on the market for a reason. They are fun and affordable, perfect for the young train enthusiast in your family.
