Sunset Models’ production will now be handled by Third & Townsend Models LLC.
In an email sent to customers, Sunset Models Inc. CEO Scott Mann said “Our models [will be] produced by Jay [Escamilla], under the Sunset Models/3rd Rail/Golden Gate Depot banners.”
Moving the model production, according to the email, is a five year lease-to-own process.
“I‘ve shown [Jay] the ropes of how to make our models and he’s doing this very well. We travelled to Korea and China together late last year to introduce him to the factory and everyone is excited about the new blood in the business,” said Mann.
Other aspects of Sunset Models’ business are changing too. The firm announced a new address (231 Market Place PMB 223, San Ramon, CA 94583).
All Sunset Models’ parts can now be found at Get3RParts.com.
“We [will] have parts from the past 50 years [there,]” said Mann.
When asked what customers might notice about the changes, Third & Townsend Models’ owner Jay Escamilla responded enthusiastically.
“If customers notice anything, it will be momentum. We’re expanding production, increasing consistency, and bringing more projects to life. The growth of our social media presence has introduced a new generation of modelers to our work. That expanded audience gives us the confidence to invest in more models — including smaller, specialized runs that might not have been possible before,” he said.
Escamilla is excited about the future of Sunset Models.
“This is deeply personal for me. I grew up studying these models along with many other manufacturers’, admiring the craftsmanship, and dreaming about models I wished existed. Today, I get to be part of creating them. Manufacturing isn’t just a business decision, it’s the fulfillment of a lifelong passion. Carrying these brands forward is both a responsibility and a privilege, and I feel that every single day,” he said.
