Dave Abeles was born and raised in western New Jersey. A lifelong railfan, Dave grew up dreaming of Conrail freights and begging for time trackside near his home, and modeling what he saw. Trains Magazine introduced him to the glory of the American West, and another lifelong fascination with the Rio Grande and other railroads of the southwest was born. Dave graduated from Syracuse University with a civil engineering degree in 1999. He lives in northwestern New Jersey and works as a General Superintendent on a major northeastern passenger railroad.
