The layout you saw is the Winston Salem Southbound. Episode 3 shows how David did the lighting. Basically, he used a piece of track-lighting track with some adjustable fixtures. Hope this helps.
I thought the Southbound was sent here to Chattanooga, I know the Virginian, Canadian Canyons and a section of the MR&T were sent down here, what else was sent to the Firecrown office in Chattanooga?
Jason, I happened to be watching that day and when the layout was being wheeled out of the room, I recognized the logo on the valance as it passed by the camera. Perhaps they were getting it ready for shipment?
A question – in viewing today’s workshop (Tues 8/20), one of the layouts displayed on the floor had a string of over-hang lamps at the top of the backdrop. These would appear to satisfy a personal solution on my layout. Any response as to type, availability, etc would be greatly appreciated. Thanks much.

Kent, great comments. Thanks. This is something many of us go through, perhaps several times. I see a chance for a great collaboration here between the video, MR, and MRP. Like a series of interrelated videos and articles. From thought provoking Tony Koester MRP type articles on “How to start over in a new space” like changing scale, era, prototype, location. Then actual track planning, designing, and building. We all struggle through those thoughts.
I know most of us missed seeing the MR&T getting demolished, can we see a video on what it would take to get a model railroad removed
Is there going to be a new project layout / series filmed soon ? Also does all the modeling take place in another room than the workshop shown?

Hi, Corey — We’ll need to get settled in the new place before launching straight into a new project layout. But Gerry Leone and David Popp are still building out their respective layouts… for Trains.com Video, of course!
Yes, workshop construction space and staff workbenches are separated by the partially open door in the lower LH corner of the video feed. The N, HO, and O (3-rail) scale layouts are stored in the room through the open double-doors in the upper LH corner of the video feed.
P.s. I feel your pain re: the demise of the MR&T

How big is the new MR workshop? Seems to look a bit smaller?
I see David Popp at work and I hope that we get to see a new version of the MR&T soon
David is itchin’ to get some construction started…but, first things first…he’s building out flats for our new Video Studio B. (P.s. Those risers/steps from the ol’ MR&T make for nice sawhorses, eh?)
Watching a blank slate. So many of us have been there. So many possibilities. Hope we get to come along on the journey.
When you get settled in, it would be great to have a video tour of the new space.
