Host David Popp continues to make progress on the roadway scenery he started in Episode 17 of the HO scale (1:87.1) East Troy Industrial Park project layout series. In this episode, David shares techniques for working with the foam material he selected to create sloped landforms along the inclined roadway. Then it’s back to the railroad bridge effort, where the guys test-fit the painted structure on the layout.
Be sure to keep up with the construction progress by linking into the Trains.com Workshop Webcam (available 24/7), and the full series of helpful, instructional videos rolling out every month until the effort concludes. Even then, the fun will continue in frequent Trains.com articles/updates and Model Railroader print features, beginning with the January 2026 issue. You won’t want to miss the Expert Tips and Techniques the crew will share with you along the way, as they have a bit of fun bringing the ETIP into fruition!
I realy like the cork roadbed idea on top of risers. And I had not known before that double roadbed was scale road width. Excellent video!
Enjoying each of these episodes as the HO layout I never built. In 1986 I traded my HO for Lionel O Gauge with my father who eventually went to N gauge. Fond memories of the 7+ years I had HO but no regrets on the Lionel which I still have.
Thanks!

Time to build a road the risers are now dry so now it is time to place down some cork and cover the whole thing in Smooth It. Can’t wait to see what the road looks like when it’s done I’m going to be doing the same thing pretty soon.
