An N scale General Motors Diesel Division GP40-2W from Atlas recently toured our Milwaukee, Racine & Troy State Line Route layout. Model Railroader editor Eric White and senior editor Cody Grivno talk about the features on the locomotive and take it for a tour of the “Mini Myrt.”

Paint schemes on the four-axle road unit include Canadian National (zebra stripes and website schemes), Guilford (gray and orange), Pan Am Railways (dark blue), and Huron Central (orange, black, and yellow). Each paint scheme is offered in two to four road numbers; undecorated (early and late) versions are also available.

Features on the N scale General Motors Diesel Division GP40-2W from Atlas include an injection-molded plastic body; 3,000-gallon fuel tank; snow shields; a single light and no number boards on the long hood; round or square sand fill hatches; a cab-mounted bell; a three-chime air horn; blackened metal wheels; and a Scale Speed motor. Additional details include a body-mounted Accumate couplers, modeler-installed etched-metal sunshades, and operating ditch lights.

Silver Series (direct current) models include a factory-installed speaker and are priced at $149.95. Gold Series models are equipped with a dual-mode ESU LokSound decoder sell for $259.95. Subtract $10 for undecorated models. You can find the GP40-2W at your favorite Atlas retailer right now.
