Model Railroader magazine’s contributing editor Andy Sperandeo shows how to make trailing and facing point switching maneuvers on a layout of any size or scale. Viewers get to see and hear Andy talking through the steps, as he operates a diesel locomotive on the MR&T HO scale layout.

  1. Facing and Trailing Point. Andy did know his stuff bless him he will be missed.

    If your siding is trailing point just unhook the train and back in and pull the other car out and set your drop in the hole.

    If you are on facing point switches you must use a run around track or a wye to get into the industry.

    In this scenario REC Paper, Kalmbach Feed, and Cargill Feed are trailing point which means you can back a car in there and pull out with one move.

    Badgerland Ethanal, Troy Cold Storage, and Swanson Propane are facing point which means you will have to use the run around track by the station to get into them.
