  1. This is good to know try to not make anything out of reach when you’re designing your layout.

  2. Yep, 30” is a good standard for maximum reach. I have a siding on my layout that’s at least 28” into the scene, but, compounding the problem, the minimum height of my track is approximately 52” from the floor. To get around this, I use a step stool to reach in with an uncoupling wand and can avoid damage up front. Not optimal, but that siding with its minor inconvenience beats no siding at all.
