Midday Modeler – June 7th. 2023. It’s a Classic Toy Trains Takeover! Hal and Rene host this week’s episode to give updates on the land of Classic Toy Trains. Hal shows off a new building from Menards, along with providing some maintenance tips for your large locomotives (and shows few small locos as well). Rene instructs how to score some cheap but useful finds for your layout. Mitch stops by with a TDC update. Cody shows off a handy modeling technique using some spackling. Questions for the Crew? Post them down below in the comments section!

  1. In some cases the precipitate from corroded batteries can be cleaned and removed by applying vinegar. Use caution, personal protection equipment, and a big plastic basin, outside. It will fizz and spill over. You might have to borrow someone’s toothbrush to get a few tiny crusty bits out, then shake out the excess vinegar, and let air dry. I have cleaned up many electronic devices this way over the years.

  2. Re Thrift Stores: I just discovered that my local thrift store has a bunch of “wall wart” power supplies of various power ratings. Now my go-to place when I need one cheap and quick for some project.

    1. Michael, what a great suggestion! I’m going to make sure Hal sees this comment.

  3. Hello,

what kind of track bumper could I use for my layout set in the late 1930s, early 1940s situated in the Nortwest and showing a rural branch line.

    Thanks

    Markus

  4. Another good source of “free” small-parts holders are fruit cups. I always start my day with a cup of applesauce. (I prefer the cinnamon flavored, but your taste may vary.) Afterwards I simply wash out the cup and add it to the stack on my workbench. These are also useful for mixing paint or small amounts of plaster or sculptamold.
