On today’s Midday Modeler, David and Cody discuss painting track on the project railroad. Eric shows off the work he’s doing on a switch tower kit. Steve gives an update on the structures he’s building for the project layout. Mitch talks about working on the next layout structure, the water street freight terminal. David and the Crew answer a bunch of viewer posted questions.

  1. Where is the March 15th Midday Modeler? With all the info Midday Modeler contains plus the work to produce it, one would think Trains.com wouldn’t make it impossible to find!

  2. While talking with Eric about soldering and parts falling off when the hot iron is applied elsewhere in the project reminded me of something similar that happened years ago. I was prepping a brass locomotive for paint and after washing it, set it in the oven (I can hear you laughing already!) … anyway, you know the rest. My wife heard some noises, the tender parts had dropped off the body. That’s why I don’t cook, if I try to boil water, it burns!

  3. That issue of MR from 1964 with the “Model Railroad With A Future” was the first issue of MR that I ever bought. On my way back to boarding school I needed something to read on the train. That issue made me give up on Lionel “toy trains” and switch to HO. Have been a subscriber ever since.

  4. Does FreeMo require all ballast on the module to be the same? The standard color makes sense for the main line that connects to other modules, but can the spurs use a different color?

  5. Cody: Considering that the point/closure rails in the new Walthers turnouts have no hinge, and are connected by jumpers to the stock rails, is it still necessary to mask the point area before painting?
