CALGARY, Alberta — Canadian Pacific Kansas City has reached a tentative five-year agreement with the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen for engineers on the former Soo Line in the United States.
The agreement announced Thursday, Nov. 13, would cover approximately 300 engineers on the former Soo Line in Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota, North Dakota, and Wisconsin.
“We are very pleased to have reached this latest tentative collective agreement benefiting approximately 300 of our railroaders in the United States,” CPKC CEO Keith Creel said in a press release. “Thank you to the leadership of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers.”
The latest deal follows last week’s announcement of tentative agreements with 13 other unions, representing approximately 360 U.S. workers [see “CPKC reaches 13 tentative agreements …,” Trains.com, Nov. 5, 2025]. Those deals, like the one with the BLET, are subject to ratification.
“With this agreement and 13 others reached at the bargaining table with our unions across the United States in recent days, CPKC will continue to safely and efficiently deliver for our customers for years to come in support of American business and economic growth,” Creel said.
Information on the BLET website says the agreement includes raises totaling 18.5% over the life of the contract — a figure matching agreements reached this year throughout the industry — as well as several key changes to work rules. Health and welfare benefits remain part of national negotiations. Ratification ballots are now being distributed, with voting to conclude by Dec. 11.
