CN reports record February grain movements in Canada

MONTREAL — Canadian National experienced its best February on record for Canadian grain movements, the railroad said on Thursday, March 5.

CN moved more than 2.67 metric tons of grain from Western Canada, the railroad said in a press release, demonstrating its ability to meet peak-season shipping demand. CPKC said earlier this week that it also set a record in February [see “CPKC sets grain-hauling record …,” Trains.com, March 3, 2026].

Both railroads emphasize the significance of their grain traffic because Canadian grain movements are tightly regulated by the federal government. Railways are required to move set amounts of grain, and the total revenue the rail companies can earn for those movements is capped.
