Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority logoPHILADELPHIA — Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority Regional Rail service continues to be hammered by the effects of inspections of its Silverliner IV railcars, with the agency announcing plans to cancel 22 trains both today (Thursday, Nov. 13) and Friday, Nov. 14. The same trains will have been cancelled all five days this week.

Set for cancellation on the Airport, Chestnut Hill West, Fox Chase, and Warminster lines are trains Nos. 9411, 412, 425, 802, 809, and 814 during the morning peak period, and the remainder of the day, Nos. 9426, 9435, 436, 449, 9450, 460, 473, 821, 826, 833, 838, 845, 857, and 862.

The agency is working to meet a Friday deadline to complete inspections of its Silverliner IV cars [see “SEPTA receives two-week extension …,” Trains.com, Oct. 31, 2025]. Those inspections were mandated by the Federal Railroad Administration in response to a series of five fires earlier this year involving the Silverliners, built between 1974 and 1976.

Disruptions to Regional Rail service will likely last the remainder of the year, SEPTA says. WCAU-TV reports that as of Tuesday, 204 of the 233 Silverliner IVs had been completed, but 131 remain out of service to receive repairs. Ten cars are coming from Maryland’s MARC to help address the equipment shortage as of mid-December, the station reports.
