Last Day of Summer Camp 2023 on Trains.com Video! Camp Director David Popp has been been working really hard all week to get his locomotive weathered, boxcar decaled, bridge constructed, detailed parts assembled and painted, as well as the truck project completed too. Although camp closes after this session, we’ll see you back on the regularly programmed Olympia Series because we’ve got a lot more model railroad yet to finish on this little On30 layout!

Great series! I really liked how you worked on a variety of small projects during the week.
As always, I thoroughly enjoyed the summer camp series and the Olympia series. Thank you so much for featuring On30 for us Black Sheep! Just one correction…you referred to the staves of your barrels a couple times. I believe you meant the hoops. Staves are the vertical wooden slats that make up the barrel’s body. Hoops are the metal straps that hold the staves together. My grandfather was a cooper so I’m pretty familiar with barrels and figured you would want to know. Again, I love your work on Olympia and Sand Creek. You have inspired me to try a few new projects on my On30 Slab Foot Mountain Railroad! I look forward to more!

Thanks George! Hoops it is. That was one of those moments where I was in the middle of the video and grabbed for a word and hoped I’d gotten it correct. Glad you enjoy the series!
Dave, I discovered Apple Barrel paints a couple of years ago and have been using them almost exclusively on my models. One caveat: They do require priming for best adhesion, especially on plastic. Like you, I use Rustoleum rattle can primer which I let dry for 48 hours.
As far as cleaning my brushes, I use wet water and I find it works very well. I also use it if I need just a drop to improve the flow of the craft paint.
I’ve really enjoyed this series, as well as the regular Olympia & Sand Creek videos. Thanks for all of your hard work.
My gran father painted all hi milk can a rather ugly lime/olive green color. That way he could easily identify his milk cans from the COOP. I do recall another famer painted all his can Tractor Red for the same reason.
My Lionel layout as a kid used to sit on 4 of those milk cans. Not sure what happened to them, for along time they were used a bar stools too.
the cubs—-really?
Great series – Fall Camp ???? 🙂
It’s called a “wattle”. The thing under the chicken’s beak.
The “Summer Camp” format really appeals to me. Often the time between episodes of the typical project railroad series is lengthy and I understand the reasons why this occurs. For me however, watching the progress of your individual projects (locomotive and box car weathering, bridge construction, etc.) presented in short segments over a multi-episode format all in 6-7 episodes helps my concentration and increases my learning. Very much looking forward to future segments on the Olympia & Sand Creek !
Oh BOY. I can’t wait for next summer and camp. I think summer camp has become my favorite series here. Right next to Southbound and the Olympia series.
