WASHINGTON — The U.S. Senate today confirmed the nomination of Surface Transportation Board member Michelle Schultz for a second term, the board said in a brief press release.
Schultz was re-nominated by President Donald Trump on Sept. 10. Her second term will expire on Nov. 30, 2030.
Schultz joined the board for her first term on Jan. 11, 2021, following confirmation by the Senate in November 2020. Prior to joining the board, she served various leadership roles with the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority, including deputy general counsel and director of legislative affairs.
Schultz’ confirmation leaves the board at three members. Two seats remain vacant, with one opening stemming from the retirement of former chairman Martin J. Oberman in May 2024 and the second from President Trump’s firing of member Robert Primus in August. Richard Kloster has been nominated to fill the seat vacated by Oberman in September; his confirmation hearing was held along with that of Schultz in November [see “STB nominees vow independence …,” Trains.com, Nov. 6, 2025], but he continues to await confirmation.
