WASHINGTON — Marcus Molinaro, a former Republican member of the House of Representatives from New York, has been confirmed by the U.S. Senate as administrator of the Federal Transit Administration.
Molinaro was confirmed by a 71-23 vote on Saturday, Aug. 2, 2025. Results of the roll-call vote are available here.
“I applaud the U.S. Senate for confirming Administrator Molinaro earlier today. Marc’s leadership, experience, and commitment to making transit safe again will be a strong asset to the department,” Transportation Secretary Sean P. Duffy said in a press release. Said Molinaro, “I am grateful to President Trump for placing his trust in me, and to Secretary Duffy for his confidence in my leadership. I am committed to supporting our nation’s public transportation systems and ensuring a safer, more accessible, and better-connected America.”
American Public Transportation Association CEO Paul Skoutelas issued a statement congratulating Molinaro on his confirmation, and said he “brings valuable real-world experience to the role — from his service on the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure to his leadership as a New York County Executive. He understands that modern, reliable public transportation is not only vital to mobility but also critical to economic growth, job creation, and global competitiveness. … His leadership reflects a deep commitment to the role public transportation plays in providing access for millions of Americans to economic opportunities.”
The nomination was supported by the Transport Workers Union of America. Its president, John Samuelsen said at the time of the nomination that Molinaro “was a strong advocate for public transit in downstate New York while serving in Congress his experience will be essential for navigating transit issues nationwide. He has demonstrated a willingness to work with everyone — including trade unions — and he understands the challenges and issues the FTA will face.”
Molinaro was elected to the house in 2021, serving one term. He was spent six years in the New York State Assembly, served three-three year terms as executive of Duchess County, N.Y., and was an unsuccessful candidate for New York’s governorship in 2018. A more complete biography is available on the FTA website.
Molinaro had been serving as a senior advisor to the FTA pending his confirmation. Tariq Bokhari, who had been serving as acting administrator, now becomes deputy administrator.
