The worker received a five-month suspension and a final warning, according to a press release.

Record obtained by the Office of Inspector General show the structure maintainer ignored requirements at least 32 times. The individual admitted to the office that he had worked for at least nine private businesses between April 2020 and July 2024, including a contractor on an MTA Construction & Development project. He was required to have NYCT permission for outside work, but records show the worker did not fill out a dual employment request until December 2024, after the OIG investigation and subpoenaed his outside employers. The worker said he had filled out a required dual employment form in 2017, but the OIG found no record of that request.

“This employee’s behavior jeopardized both his safety and the safety of others,” said Inspector General Daniel Cort. “Outside employment rules exist for good reason: to safeguard the system, its workforce, and its customers; to avoid conflicts of interest; and to prevent time abuse. Those who violate the rules will be held accountable.”
