DENVER — With Gov. Jared Polis on hand for the departure, Amtrak’s Winter Park Express launched its 2025-26 season on Friday, Dec. 19. It was the first of 57 scheduled trips for the ski train through March 29.
The train is operating three days a week for its first three weekends — Dec. 19-21, Dec. 26-28, and Jan 2-4 — then will shift to Thursday-through-Sunday operation for the remainder of the season [see “Ticket sales begin …,” Trains.com, Nov. 5, 2025].
“I’m excited to see the continued growth and popularity of the Winter Park Express this year,” Polis said in a press release, “helping get Coloradans where we want to go, saving people time and money, and removing traffic and pollution from our highways.”
This is the second year that the state Department of Transportation has been involved in the partnership with Amtrak and the Winter Park Resort. “In our second season of expanded service and lower fares, people’s excitement for the train is only growing, with sales up more than 20% already,” said CDOT executive director Shoshana Lew.
More information on the train is available at the Amtrak website.
