FEDERAL WAY, Wash. — Sound Transit is set to open the latest addition to its Link light rail system on Saturday, Dec. 6, opening the three-station Federal Way Extension with a series of events.

Events begin at 9:30 a.m. with speeches and a ribbon cutting at the Federal Way downtown station, with trains set to begin running about 11 a.m. From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., that station and the new stops at Kent Des Moines and Star Lake will feature a series of community celebrations with free live performances, art, food vendors, and a variety of other events. Details on the features at each station are available here.

The 7.8-mile extension to the 1 Line will allow riders to travel from the Federal Way station to Sea-Tac Airport in 16 minutes, the Stadium station — serving the homes of the Seahawks, Sounders, and Mariners — in 38 minutes, and downtown Seattle in 50 minutes. It will make the 1 Line to Lynnwood, at 41 miles with 26 stations, the second-longest light rail line in the U.S. behind LA Metro’s 57.6-mile, 48-station A Line.
