MONTREAL — The second portion of Montreal’s Réseau express métropolitain light rail system will open on Monday, Nov. 17, builder CDPQ Infra announced today (O t. 20, 2025).
The Deux-Montagnes branch, replacing an EXO commuter line that ended operations on Dec. 31, 2020, will add 33 kilometers (20.5 miles) 14 stations to the six stations and 17 kilometers (10.5 miles) that have been in operation since July 2023 — “If everything goes according to plan,” CDPQ Infra said in a press release. The opening is “subject to a successful completion of the last tests.”
Service will run from approximately 5:30 a.m., with the train to Deux-Montagnes from Central Station at 8:45 p.m. After that, service will continue between Brossard and Côte-de-Liesse, five stations to the north of Central Station, until 1 a.m. on weekdays. That will allow testing to continue for the launch of the Anse-à-l’Orme branch, currently expected in spring 2026.
The much-delayed project, originally projected for a full opening in 2022, had projected an October opening of both the Deux-Montagnes and Anse-à-l’Orme branches this month, but in September announced the two-phase opening with the first portion in November [see “Opening of additional Montreal light rail …,” Trains.com, Sept. 26, 2025]. The change reflected concerns about opening so much trackage in the winter, given winter reliability issues that the original section has experienced.
