
DALLAS — Dallas Area Rapid Transit light rail service continues to deal with disruptions as of the start of service today (Aug. 4, 2025) following last week’s fire on a light rail train in the tunnel below the downtown area. As of late last week, service was expected to be restored today.
Additionally, service on the Dallas Streetcar is being disrupted by a track issue.
The July 30 fire near the Pearl/Arts District station injured 15 passengers on board the light rail vehicle, sending six to the hospital [see “Six hospitalized …,” Trains.com, July 30, 2025]. Since July 31, service in the central business district where DART’s four light rail lines come together as been handled by a combination of shuttle trains and bus bridges; details are available on DART’s service alert page.
DART CEO Nadine Lee told a board meeting on Friday that she expected normal operations to resume this morning. “Our incredible operations, maintenance-of-way, and maintenance teams, along with support across the agency, have worked tirelessly in 12- to 16-hour shifts to keep service moving and accelerate repairs,” Lee said, according to KDFW-TV.
The Dallas Streetcar, a 2.45-mile, six-stop route connecting to light rail at EBJ/Union Station, is currently being replaced by shuttle vans because of a switch problem at Bishop Arts, the south end of the route.
