MISSOURI CITY, Texas — Two passengers suffered minor injuries on Tuesday, March 17, when Amtrak’s Sunset Limited hit a truck hauling a container at a grade crossing, NBC News reports.
Missouri City Fire Chief Mario Partida said crews responded to the accident around 11 a.m. local time. Two minor injuries were treated at the scene, he said; there were no injuries among the train crew and truck driver.
The fire department said in a Facebook post that Houston Metro transit assisted with passenger transport, and that the Fort Bend County HazMat addressed a fuel spill that resulted from the collision.
Amtrak said 93 passengers and 11 crew members were aboard the eastbound train at the time of the accident. The train was canceled beyond the point of the accident, with bus transportation provided for the remainder of the trip. Today’s westbound Sunset, which would use the same trainset, has been canceled between New Orleans and San Antonio, Texas.
Missouri City is approximately 20 miles southwest of Houston on Union Pacific’s Glidden Subdivision.
