PLEASANT HILL, Mo. — Six passengers on Amtrak’s Missouri River Runner suffered minor injuries on Sunday (Aug. 18, 2025) when the train struck a trailer at a private grade crossing near Kansas City, the Missouri Highway Patrol reports.
The collision occurred about 5 p.m. WDAF-TV reports the eastbound train struck a trailer loaded with hay being pulled by a pickup truck. The passengers who reported minor injuries — two men and four women, with ages ranging from 51 to 66 — refused treatment at the scene, according to the Missouri Highway Patrol crash report. The truck’s driver, a 64-year-old male, was not injured.
The incident led to the cancellation of one round trip of the River Runner (trains 311 and 316) today because of equipment unavailability, according to the Amtrak Alerts social media feed. Substitute bus transportation was provided.
Pleasant Hill is on Union Pacific’s Sedalia Subdivision, about 40 miles east of Kansas City Union Station.
