EAST FARMINGDALE, N.Y. — Three passengers were injured when a Long Island Rail Railroad train hit a vehicle at a grade crossing on Monday (Feb. 2), igniting a fire.

LongIsland.com reports the collision occurred about 7 p.m. at the Little East Neck Road grade crossing, east of the Pinelawn station in East Farmingdale. About 40 people were on the Ronkonkoma-bound train at the time; one was treated at the scene and two others were taken to Good Samaritan University Hospital in West Islip, N.Y.

There were no injuries to the train crew or anyone in the vehicle. The New York Post reports it was not immediately clear if the vehicle had been abandoned on the tracks.

The collision led to a suspension of service on the Ronkonkoma Branch overnight. Operations have now resumed but trains are subject to delays, with only one track available between Farmingdale and Deer Park. Bus substitutions may occur at some points between Farmingdale and Ronkonkoma.
