TORONTO — GO Transit commuter rail service from Toronto Union Station remains disrupted as of this evening (Feb. 2) after a low-speed derailment involving a GO train earlier today.
An advisory on the GO website says track availability is limited because the derailed train remains in place, “leading to ongoing signal issues, restricted train movement, and significant delays through the afternoon and evening.” GO Transit said it is unable to provide exact train departure times, according to the advisory: “Trains will operate as soon as they are able and within our normal service limits. We are running service on all lines we normally operate, but trains may not depart at their usual intervals.”
Metrolinx, the provincial transit agency, said in a statement to the Toronto Star that a was train departing Union Station about 8:16 a.m. when it derailed and “made contact with a track switch.” No injuries were reported.
The Toronto Transit Commission said in a social media post that it is increasing streetcar and bus service to support GO passengers, as well as those using the UP Express trains between Union Station and Toronto’s Pearson Airport. UP Express service was suspended for part of the day.
There is currently no estimate when regular service will be restored.
