DALLAS — Dallas Area Rapid Transit will launch its new commuter rail Silver Line on Saturday, Oct. 25, the agency announced today (Sept. 12, 2025).
Rides will be free on the first day — and free rides will continue through Nov. 8, DART says, to give everyone the chance to experience the new service firsthand.
The 26-mile, 10-station Silver Line — using a former St. Louis Southwestern route — serves seven cities, connecting Plano to DFW International Airport via Richardson, Addision, Carrollton, Dallas, Coppell, and Grapevine. It will offer a connection to Trinity Metros TEXRail commuter line at the airport, along with connecting to DART’s light rail Green, Red, and Orange lines. Unlike those lines, the Silver Line is not light rail, but a commuter system using eight Stadler FLIRT diesel multiple-unit trainsets.
DART CEO Nadine Lee announced the start date at the conclusion of her third annual State of the Agency briefing.
“The Silver Line opening is a realization of a promise kept to our riders and our region,” Lee said in a press release. “This state-of-the-art train will improve connections, create new access to jobs, and drive economic growth across North Texas, with a fitting theme to ‘Discover New Horizons.’ Most importantly, this line shows our riders that we heard them, and we delivered.”
First-day events are planned at all 10 of the new stations; the agency will announce more details at a future date.
“The Silver Line is a major step forward in building a stronger, more connected region,” DART Board Chairman Gary Slagel said. “It is an investment in both today’s riders and future generations. We are proud to open its doors and welcome the community aboard.”

Just yesterday I was looking to see if a date had been announced for this yet. Glad it’s about to open, and I’m curious to see what comes next.
