ST. LOUIS — Former Wabtec CEO Ray Betler has joined the board of directors of Intramotev, the company developing autonomous railcars.
Betler, who began his career as a propulsion systems engineer at Westinghouse, rose to become the youngest head of engineering and later president and CEO in the company’s 120-year history. He joined Wabtec in 2008 and served as chief operating officer, then president and CEO, leading the company’s merger with GE Transportation. He will serve on Intramotev’s board as an independent director.
“Ray has spent his career at the forefront of rail innovation,” Intramotiv CEO Tim Luchini said in a press release. “He’s led global organizations through times of transformation, and having his experience at Intramotev will be invaluable as we continue to grow.”
Said Betler, “Intramotev’s technology is already delivering measurable results for customers, and it’s clear the company has only scratched the surface of what’s possible. I look forward to supporting the team as they expand adoption of a technology our industry truly needs.”
Intramotev’s autonomous cars moved more than 350,000 tons of material for customer Carmeuse Americas in 2025 at a location on Michigan’s Upper Peninsula [see “MARS presentation sees autonomous railcars …,” Trains.com, Jan. 19, 2026]. The company has also deployed equipment with Watco as of February.
