Freight and passenger traffic began rolling overnight after crews were able to make repairs

CSX logoJACKSONVILLE, Fla. — CSX was able to repair flood damage to former Baltimore & Ohio main lines in the Cumberland, Md., area overnight, allowing freight and Amtrak service to resume.

The CSX routes sustained damage during heavy rainstorms on Tuesday [see “Flooding knocks out key CSX routes …,” Trains News Wire, May 15, 2025].

“We’re pleased to share that we have returned to normal operations in the Northeast following this week’s severe weather event,” CSX said in an update today.

The railroad warned that more harsh weather may be on the way.

“However, we are closely monitoring conditions as new storms are expected to develop and continue through early next week. These systems could potentially impact the Midwest and Southwest areas of our network,” CSX said, adding that it would keep customers informed with timely updates.
